Friends of the Parks, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation, was formed to assist the Alameda Recreation and Park Department through a number of fundraising activities. Included among these was the publication and sale of "Alameda at Play", a book which chronicles the history, acquisition, and development of Alameda's park system.
The group’s mission statement is to "improve the quality and increase the availability of recreational activities and programs in the City of Alameda and to maintain the parks therein.”
