UPDATE: The water flow has been stopped, East Bay MUD is working on repairing the break, and signs for road closures/detours are in place. EBMUD estimates the repair will be complete before the morning commute.
Please AVOID Otis Drive and High Street due to a water main break. The intersection is flooding and work crews are attempting repairs.

LATE NIGHT POWER OUTAGE TONIGHT: In order for Alameda Municipal Power to complete repairs related to Tuesday's power outage (10/2), customers in the area of Clement, Buena Vista, and Lincoln -- along with all customers from Sherman Street through east Alameda, including Bay Farm Island, may be without power for up to five minutes at approximately 3 am on Friday, Oct. 5. Late-Night Closure of the Webster Tube for Electrical System Maintenance:
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced that it will have a late-night closure of the Webster Tube (entering Alameda) for electrical system maintenance on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, from 9:30 pm to 4:30 am the following morning.

Caltrans to close 880 Northbound onramp at 23rd Avenue:
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will conduct a continuous full closure of the Northbound 880 Onramp at 23rd Avenue for two consecutive weeks, starting September 28 – October 15, 2018, to complete the connector ramp for the new 23rd Avenue Overcrossing onto Northbound I-880 in the City of Oakland.

Bay Farm Island Bridge Closure Update:
Caltrans expected to complete this project over the weekend, but encountered quite a few significant challenges that prevented project completion. They announced the need for a full evening closure (11pm to 5am) on Wednesday, July 11, Thursday, July 12, and Friday, July 13. This schedule could change, and we will post any updated information we receive right away.

Bay Farm Island Bridge Update: Caltrans is finishing their work to spot blast clean and paint steel bridge elements. We have been advised that there will be a few days in June with full closures. After that, the repairs will be complete! Thank you all for your patience and as soon as we are notified about these final days of bridge closures, we will post here again.

The County of Alameda Public Works Agency will be closing traffic lanes on the Miller-Sweeney (Fruitvale) Bridge, Park Street Bridge, and High Street Bridge on different days beginning in April.
Miller-Sweeny Bridge (connects with Fruitvale Avenue): Monday, April 2, lane closures from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Motorists should expect delays. Tuesday, April 3, lane closures during the day, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Then, later that night, there will be a full closure from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Motorists should follow the posted detour or choose another way to enter or exit Alameda.
High Street Bridge: Wednesday, April 4 through Friday, April 6, there will be a full closure from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day. Motorists should follow the posted detour or choose another way to enter or exit Alameda.
Park Street Bridge: Monday, April 9 through Thursday, April 12, lane closures from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. On Wednesday night, April 11, all lanes will be closed from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Motorists should follow the posted detour or choose another way to enter or exit Alameda.

Friday evening, a Monterey pine in Lower Washington Park fell and seriously injured a man while watching an Encinal High softball game. While he is in stable condition, this was a terrible accident, and we want residents to know that the City is taking this very seriously to prevent future accidents. Our Recreation and Parks Department confirmed that arborists regularly assess park trees in Alameda, most recently in 2017. In addition, maintenance staff assess park trees on a daily basis. The tree that fell Friday had appeared to be healthy, but the wet soils from recent rains combined with being on a sloped area may have played a role. The fallen tree was removed right away, and today our workers removed a second tree in an abundance of caution and assessed the other trees on the hill. Because of this work, Washington Park is safe and open to the public.
