The Community Development Department is comprised of four divisions, Building, Code Enforcement, Planning, and Economic Development. Together, they seek to promote the economic vitality and safety of our community and are responsible for drafting, maintaining, and implementing land-use policy regulations, as well as building standards and codes for the City of Alameda, including life safety, environmental stewardship, and community character.
To this purpose, Community Development staff serves the City Council, the Planning Board, the Historic Advisory Board, Economic Development Commission, the Housing and Building Code Hearing and Appeals Board, and the Public Arts Commission.
