The East Bay Economic Development Alliance (East Bay EDA) announced the 16 finalists for its annual East Bay Innovations Awards. The awards spotlight the most significant contributors to the East Bay’s extraordinary culture and track record of innovation. This year’s finalists include Alameda-based Singulex, Inc., which develops and manufactures an advanced diagnostic test for early detection of cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States.
"All of us at Singulex are deeply honored to be considered for this award," said Guido Baechler, President and CEO of Singulex. "It means a great deal to us to be recognized for our pioneering work in cardiovascular diagnostics, which is helping to reduce the chances of future heart attacks for millions of people. Our location in Alameda has enabled us to attract and retain bright, innovative talent, and has been an important part of our success."
“The City of Alameda congratulates Singulex on this distinction,” said Debbie Potter, the City’s Community Development Director. “It is exciting to see Singulex get the recognition it deserves for its extremely sophisticated and profoundly essential work.”
The 16 companies and organizations which are selected by independent industry professionals after a public nomination process coordinated and launched by the East Bay EDA, are being recognized not only for being instrumental in advancing the region’s culture of innovation, but also for contributing to regional prosperity.
The Awards recognize companies in the areas of clean technology, advanced manufacturing, food, information / communication technology, life sciences, engineering and design. Singulex is a finalist for the life science award, which Penumbra, Inc., another Alameda-based company, won last year.
The finalists will be recognized at a gala on February 13, 2014, at the Fox Theater in Oakland. At the event, East Bay EDA will announce the Innovation Award winners.
