The City of Alameda is pleased to announce that the Pennzoil-Quaker State Company has started to remove the above-ground storage tanks at its Pennzoil Distribution Center located at 2015 Grand Street in Alameda. The center has 48 above-ground storage tanks. In all, 36 of the tanks will be removed, along with a small building structure.
"We are very pleased about the removal of these tanks as it will greatly reduce the visual blight in the City, and improve the quality of life for the surrounding neighborhoods,” said Mayor Marie L. Gilmore. “Pennzoil did a great job reaching out to the community and working closely with the City to undertake this important project.”
Removing the tanks in a safe and environmentally responsible manner will take until the end of the year, during which time residents should expect to see increased truck traffic, heavy equipment on the property, and temporary fencing of the site. The removal work is being performed by ERM, a Pennzoil contractor.
