On Tuesday, February 4, 2014, the West End Library will host Erica Ward and Ross Thompson, Resident Teachng Artists of the Alameda String Academy, in Astor Piazzolla's Histoire du Tango for Violin and Guitar, at 7:00 pm
The program takes a refreshing look into the past and present of guitar music, with Piazzolla's Histoire du Tango (History of the Tango), a cycle of Appalachian songs by America composer Robert Beaser, and new works by Ross Thompson.
Erica Ward, violinist, is the director of the Alameda String Academy. A native of Portland, Oregon, she has studied, collaborated, and performed nationally and internationally and has degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music. English-born composer and guitarist Ross Thompson has performed locally and internationally. He is on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and has graduate and post graduate degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Royal College of Music in London. The Alameda String Academy is a music school in Alameda offering lessons in violin, viola, cello and guitar for students of all ages, with a particular focus on chamber music.
