In a letter sent yesterday to the Alameda County District Attorney, City of Alameda Mayor Marie Gilmore urged the District Attorney to “seek the maximum punishment under the law” if the suspects are convicted for setting the series of fires in the early morning hours last Sunday.
“The suspects allegedly set homes and businesses on fire, putting people in mortal danger in the middle of the night,” said Mayor Gilmore. “If they are found guilty of the crimes, they must be held fully accountable.”
Mayor Gilmore has directed, through City Manager John Russo, that the City of Alameda’s Police and Fire Departments provide full cooperation with the District Attorney’s Office in its prosecution of this case.
“It is a blessing that no one was hurt or killed as a result of this criminal behavior,” said Mayor Gilmore.
