APD/SLPD K9 units donate $6000 to local charities

In August of 2014, the Alameda and San Leandro police departments co-hosted their second annual K9 competition in San Leandro.  The two day event attracted over 40 K9 teams from all over California. The goal of the competition was not only to strengthen relationships with the community and police K9s, but to generate funds for two non-profit organizations.  In September, each K9 unit made donations to organizations which support loacl animal programs.

Alameda PD's K9 unit made a donation to the Friends of Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) which helps to shelter and care for abandoned companion animals here in Alameda. http://www.alamedaanimalshelter.org

San Leandro's K9 unit made a donation to the Sean M. Walsh K9 Memorial Foundation which supports local law enforcement agencies seeking K9 units. http://seansk9s.com

Combined, each recipient's portion of the money raised by the competition, totaled $6000.00.

Both police agencies received an abundance of support from the public and want to thank everyone for the ongoing support.  They would also like to thank all the individuals and vendors who sponsored the event, as well as everyone who volunteered their time and the businesses who made donations to make the event successful.  Both agencies' K9 units expect to host another competition in 2016 and will let the public know as the date approaches!
