The month of February has long been celebrated as a month of romance. In the middle ages, February was believed to be the beginning of the mating season for birds. In 18th-century England, Valentine’s Day evolved into an occasion in which couples expressed their love by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards known as "valentines.”
The City Clerk’s Office invites love birds to come say their vows in the City’s charming Council Chambers on Saturday, February 14th.
Interested couples should contact the City Clerk’s office at 510-747-4800, by February 5th to reserve your time, as space is limited. Couples getting married will need to have a marriage license, which can be issued by any county and valid photo IDs.
