West End Library Hosts Music Composition Workshop

On Tuesday, January 12, the West End Library will host a music composition workshop with Danny Clay and faculty artists of the Alameda String Academy for children in first through fifth grades at 3:30 p.m.

Elementary school students will create a musical composition and then hear their creation performed. No instruments or musical experience is necessary.

Danny Clay is a composer and general noise-maker based in San Francisco. He draws upon elements of Americana, arts education, children’s theater, digital media, and everything in between to make music. He has worked with groups such as the Kronos Quartet, toy pianist Phyllis Chen, the concert: Nova, the Cincinnati Ballet, and the San Francisco Opera among others. The Alameda String Academy is a music school in Alameda offering lessons in violin, viola, cello and guitar for students of all ages, with a particular focus on chamber music.

Space is limited, so advance registration is strongly recommended. The West End Library is located at 788 Santa Clara Avenue in Alameda and the telephone number is 510-747-7767. The library is normally closed on Tuesday, however it will be open for program participants as well as waiting parents, caregivers, and siblings.
