Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Shoreline Cleanup

Saturday, January 14, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, Alameda Point Partners will be jointly hosting a shoreline cleanup with the City of Alameda Public Works Department’s Clean Water Program. The event will focus on removing litter from the shore and parking lot along the estuary, west of the Main Street Dog Park.  Local Bay Area advocacy group, San Francisco Baykeeper, will also be on-site to educate the public about the importance of keeping our water free from plastic litter and debris.

If you would like to participate in the Shoreline Cleanup event, please pre-register at https://alamedacleanup2017.eventbrite.com. Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, and bring their own reusable bucket or bag and work gloves. Large groups are encouraged; please reach out to Rachel Campos de Ivanov (contact information below) for details. Attendees under the age of 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

This is the second year Alameda Point Partners has collaborated with the City of Alameda for this clean water focused community activity. Last year’s event attracted more than 175 attendees who collected over a half ton of trash. With miles of shoreline, Alameda has a special opportunity to help keep our waterways clean, protecting fish, wildlife, and aquatic habitats. Participating in the community cleanup is a great way to help prevent bay and ocean pollution, meet your neighbors, and show community support. Service credit is available upon request.

The City of Alameda Public Works Department’s Clean Water Program fosters an appreciation of the local environment, inspiring people to do their part to prevent storm water runoff and litter pollution during everyday activities.
