Today, the City of Alameda published a new report, Feasibility Study of Six Public Access Pathways on Fernside Boulevard and Eastshore Drive.
The report identifies existing conditions of the six public access pathways along Fernside Boulevard and Eastshore Drive and assesses what recreational uses are possible at each of the six pathways to the water. The report’s scope of work includes field surveys, tidal conditions, site reconnaissance and assessment, and site mapping. The consultant team utilized criteria for neighborhood and pathway safety, parking availability, shoreline and water connection, and ADA accessibility compliance.
The pathway report was drafted at the direction of City Council last year and includes multiple options and associated cost estimates for each of the six pathways, as well as challenges and opportunities at each site. Council directed staff to use the report to solicit community feedback, bring a recommendation on the uses of each of the pathways to the Recreation and Parks Commission, and return to the City Council for final approval.
Now that the report is complete, the City is beginning its public input process to hear feedback on the different options presented in the report for the six pathways. Please join us at a Community Input Session about the report or for a walk of the pathways:

Both community meetings will be held at City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue, in Council Chambers on the 3rd Floor.
Facilitated Walk of the Pathways on Fernside and Eastshore
Saturday, September 29, 2–4pm
Meet at Lincoln Park, on Fernside Boulevard between Liberty Avenue and Central Avenue. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. No dogs please.
At each of the input sessions, the City will provide information about the feasible options and associated costs for each pathway from the report and receive public input on these concepts.
The report is available for download online. If you are unable to attend one of these public meetings, an online survey is available that mirrors the choices being presented at the meetings.
