Back by popular request, the Alameda Free Library will be hosting a Community Reading Marathon in celebration of Banned Books Week 2013. This observance commemorates the most basic freedom in a democratic society—the freedom to read freely—and encourages people not to take this freedom for granted.
Participants are invited to read, out loud, for up to 30 minutes at a time. Readers are needed for all our open hours beginning Sunday, 9/22, at 1 pm and going until Saturday, 9/28, at 5 pm. Sign-up sheets are available now at the 2nd Floor Reference Desk at the Main Library. You can also sign up by calling the Reference Desk at 510 747-7713.
You can read as an individual, as a small team, as a group, or any other combination you can think of. You may read once, once a day, multiple times per day and/or multiple days. This is a great opportunity for groups to highlight their presence in the community. If you are part of a large group that wants to participate, please speak with Reference Staff. We can probably accomodate you for a longer period of time so that everyone gets a chance to read.
Libraries are for everyone, everywhere. Because libraries provide free access to a world of information, they bring opportunity to all people.
