Bike Tour of Alameda Point

The City of Alameda’s City Council and Planning Board invite the public to join them for a special bike tour of Alameda Point. The tour will take place on Saturday November 2, 2013, from 9 a. m. to noon, rain or shine, starting at City Hall West, 950 West Mall Square. The public is encouraged to bring their bikes and helmets, and if possible to RSVP for the tour via the City’s website at alamedaca.gov/alameda-point/bike-tour.

The community-based organization Bike Walk Alameda will help guide the tour around the former Naval Air Station with stops at important locations representing the challenges and possibilities presented by the current planning effort underway for Alameda Point. The bike tour will give the public and City representatives a unique opportunity to discuss aspects of the plans from the perspective of their physical location. This tour will help provide a context and scale for the planning issues being discussed by decision makers.

The City is also using this opportunity to solicit input from those who participate. An informational pre-packet will be available before the tour on the City’s dedicated webpage (alamedaca.gov/alameda-point/bike-tour), including comment forms where the public can share their thoughts on the plans for development at the key locations highlighted on the tour.

For those who do not have a bike, but wish to participate, a limited number of bikes will be available for use on a first come, first serve basis. An ADA compliant van will also be available for people unable to bike, but wish to join the tour; please call (510) 747-6894 for reservations and details. All participants on the tour must turn in a signed liability waiver, available at the start of the tour and on the City’s website (alamedaca.gov/alameda-point/bike-tour). In addition, all bicyclists must wear a bike helmet during the tour.
