Construction Starts on AC Transit Line 51A Corridor Delay Reduction and Sustainability Project

 

The Line 51 Corridor Delay Reduction and Sustainability project will begin on August 2014. The work will consist of constructing the following: a) bus only lane in the northbound from Atlantic Boulevard to Willie Stargell; b) bus bulbs on Webster Street at Atlantic and Buena Vista Boulevard; c) traffic signal modification at Webster and Santa Clara; d) bus stop improvements (bulbs, shelters, benches and trash cans) at Willy Stargell, Atlantic, Buena Vista, 8th, Caroline, Bay, Grand, Oak, Everett, Santa Clara, and Eagle/Tilden Way; e) eliminate bus stop at Broadway and Clement; f) relocation bus stop from near-side to far-side at Buena Vista, Mozart, Morton, Chestnut, Willow and Walnut; g) coordinate traffic signals, enabling buses and cars to move smoothly and at safe speed along Webster Street and Broadway. This project is funded through FTA Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvements (CMAQ) administered by MTC for $10,500,000; and BAAQMD Transportation Fund for Clean Air (TFCA) for $100,000; and from FTA 5309 Bus Fund passed-through grant by BART for $500,000. In addition, the project received funding from City of Oakland as in-kind construction contribution totaling $2,300,000.  

 

The project is estimated to take 6 months, with expected completion date of January 2015. Construction work hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During construction, motorist may experience minor disruptions in traffic, temporary loss of parking spaces, temporary restricted street access, as well as an increase in noise and dust levels. Bus stop access will be maintained throughout the project.
