Three Alameda Companies Selected as East Bay Innovation Award Finalists

Three companies, headquartered in Alameda, were named among the finalists for the East Bay Economic Development Alliance (East Bay EDA) “Innovation Awards.”  Abbott Diabetes Care, Deep Ocean Exploration & Research, and Natel Energy were informed earlier this month that they were among 16 finalists for the prestigious award.  The awards, given annually, spotlight the East Bay’s most innovative and forward thinking companies in eight categories.  Alameda has the second highest number of finalists next to Oakland.

The City congratulates these three fantastic companies.  This important recognition is a testimony to the high level of innovation within Alameda’s business community, and further demonstrates that Alameda is a viable and supportive location for businesses of all types to thrive,” said Alameda Mayor Marie Gilmore.

The 16 companies were selected by independent industry professionals after a public nomination process.  They are being recognized as instrumental in advancing the region’s culture of innovation and for contributing to regional prosperity.  East Bay EDA received over 175 nominations for this year’s awards, representing businesses and organizations from 23 East Bay cities.

The finalists will be recognized at a gala event on February 19, 2015 at the Fox Theater in Oakland where the winners will be announced.

"All of us at Abbott Diabetes Care unit are honored to be considered for this award," said Robert Ford, Senior Vice President, Abbott Diabetes Care.  “We are committed to providing the most innovative and state-of-the-art technologies to help people with diabetes all around the globe.  Being located in Alameda has fostered this commitment by helping us to attract and retain the best talent from all across the globe to a community that is recognized worldwide for revolutionary ideas and thinking.”

"While our work takes us around the world, we are happy to be in Alameda,” said Liz Taylor, President of Deep Ocean Exploration & Research.  “Having a working waterfront location in the heart of the Bay Area allows us to collaborate with a broad range of highly skilled and creative people, businesses, and clients.  It has been the perfect home for our subsea robotics and submersible business."

"This nomination is an honor for all of us at Natel," said Gia Schneider, Chairman and CEO of Natel Energy.  "It means a lot to everyone at the company to be recognized for our hard work and the advancements we have made in the cost effectiveness of sustainable hydropower.  Being located in Alameda has been a key part of our success, enabling us to expand our manufacturing and assembly space to support our new projects in Oregon and Chile.”
