The City of Alameda's City Manager John Russo has resigned and will become City Manager for the City of Riverside, California beginning May 4, 2015.
In his resignation letter, Russo said "It has been my honor to serve Alameda, and to have worked closely with its residents to solve some of the city's most intransigent issues. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity that was given me nearly four years ago, and for the tremendous community support for me and my family during my tenure here."
Mayor Trish Spencer said that the two of them have worked well together, and that she's happy for Russo and his family. "He helped me put together a resolution to voice support for the East Bay Regional Park District's efforts to obtain the 3.9-acre Neptune Pointe property from the federal government to expand Crab Cove," Spencer said. "This was one of my first priorities as mayor."
"It demonstrates his professionalism that after a change politically on the council, he seamlessly transitioned from the prior council to working with the new one," she said. "Moving ahead, I'm looking forward to working with my Council colleagues to select our next City Manager," said Spencer. "We are fortunate to have a strong City and staff to continue to address our needs during this transitional period."
