America's Cup

Join us in welcoming the 34th America's Cup to the San Francisco Bay Area. This race is sure to attract many visitors and benefit the entire region. Alameda, with its strong maritime industry and amenities, is poised to benefit. The America's Cup has evolved into one of the world's leading sporting competitions - featuring the best sailors on the world's fastest 72-foot catamarans. This will be the first time the America's Cup has been hosted in the United States since 1995.

The America's Cup is comprised of the following Bay Area events:

  • 2011-2012 AC World Series - starting in August 2012 in San Francisco - A new, annual regatta was introduced to bring high-performance sailing to international venues. Focused on creating more on-the-water excitement, the AC World Series featured 45-foot catamarans designed for both speed and tight, tactical competition.
  • The Louis Vuitton Cup - July 4 to September 1, 2013 - A field of international teams will compete for the right to race against the Defender for the America's Cup.
  • America's Cup Finals - September 7 to 22, 2013 - A first-to-win-five (best of nine) series will match the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup against the Defender, the American Oracle Racing Team, for the trophy.
