Mayor to Lead Sister City Delegation to Dumaguete, Philippines
Mayor Trish Spencer and the Alameda Sister City Association would like to extend an invitation to interested Alamedans to join them in an official visit to Dumaguete, Philippines from Thursday, November 19 – Thursday, November 26, 2015. Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria has extended an invitation to travel to his City of Dumaguete -- Alameda’s newest Sister City -- to continue building Sister City relations that began when a Dumaguete delegation visited Alameda earlier this summer. The two mayors will be signing a Memorandum of Agreement that will outline plans for cultural, educational and business exchanges over the coming years.
The Sister City delegation from Alameda will be participating in many events, including tours of the city and waterfront area, and participating in business, academic and government forums. The trip provides an opportunity for Alameda residents and businesses to make connections and forge partnerships that will strengthen ties between the City of Alameda and Dumaguete, Philippines.
The Alameda Sister City Association is asking that interested parties respond by Thursday, October 1, 2015, to reserve a space in the delegation by contacting Karen Fong, President of the Alameda Sister City Association at Karen.Fong@sbcglobal.net. Delegation participants will be responsible to pay their own travel and other expenses.

Sister Cities International was created at President Eisenhower’s 1956 White House summit on citizen diplomacy, where he envisioned a network that would be a champion for peace and prosperity by fostering bonds between people from different communities around the world. By forming these relationships, President Eisenhower reasoned that people from different cultures could understand, appreciate, and celebrate their differences while building partnerships that would lessen the chance of new conflicts.
