Twenty New Electronic Bicycle Lockers Coming to Main Street Ferry Terminal

Starting February 23, 2016, secure bicycle parking will significantly expand at the Alameda Main Street Ferry Terminal. Twenty new shared-use, electronic bicycle lockers will be installed, replacing the existing eight individually-assigned lockers. The new lockers will be available for anyone to use on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cost to park a bike will be 5 cents per hour.

The new bicycle lockers will use the BikeLink system, which is commonly found throughout the Bay Area and at BART stations. In Alameda, there are already similar shared-use lockers using the BikeLink system at the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal, Civic Center Garage (1442 Oak St) and at Alameda Landing.

BikeLink cards can be purchased online or in retail establishments. In Alameda, BikeLink cards can be purchased at Alameda Bicycle (1522 Park Street). The cards are also sold at the Ferry Building in San Francisco at Bay Crossings (Stall #22). This project is funded by the Water Emergency Transportation Authority and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Transportation Fund for Clean Air (TFCA).

Installation of these new lockers will result in the City no longer needing to maintain a wait list for bicycle lockers. For more information about the BikeLink system and cards, please visit www.bikelink.org.
