Alameda Free Library to Host Book Cover Redesign Workshop for Teens
Let’s be honest, we all judge books by their covers. Sometimes we pick up books because they have a cool photograph or an interesting pattern on the cover. But we just as easily pass by other books because of an outdated, faded, or just plain ugly cover.
Teens are invited to come to the library on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 3:30-5:00 PM, for a Canva and Cover Redesign Workshop. The workshop is in the computer lab at the Main Library at 1550 Oak Street. Canva is a free, easy to use, graphic design software. Teens will learn how to use Canva and then create an updated cover for a book using the software. The book covers will be printed and put on display after the workshop.
Teens, ages 13 to 18, can bring their own book to recover or use one of the library’s books. This workshop is part of Teen Read Week, a national adolescent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). Its purpose is to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users. Join us to meet other teen readers, learn a new software program, and create book covers. Artistic abilities and skills are not necessary and no registration is required.
Please call the Main Library Reference Desk at 510-747-7713 or email Hallie Fields, Teen Librarian, at hfields@alamedaca.gov, if you have any questions.
