Webster Street Sidewalk Deep Cleaning in October
This month, the Alameda Public Works Department and the West Alameda Business Association (WABA) will conduct a deep cleaning of the sidewalks along both sides of Webster Street from Central Avenue to Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway.
The work will take place along an eight-block stretch of the Webster Street Business District in the late evening and early morning hours to minimize the interruption to businesses and visitors. The cleaning is more effective than regular pressure washing and will remove built up grime as well as gum deposits and discoloration of the sidewalks, including areas surrounding public litter cans.
Assessments fund enhanced routine maintenance in the district, which includes litter and graffiti removal and sidewalk washing. In 2014, WABA led a successful balloting of property owners in the Webster Street zone of the City’s Landscape and Lighting District to increase assessments for the first time since the early 1990’s.
“WABA is proud of our balloting effort with property owners to increase assessments so that there is funding available for this type of work,” said Sandip Jariwala, President of WABA. “Conducting this deep cleaning is an important component of our routine maintenance work and will improve the cleanliness of the district, which is vital to attracting shoppers, diners and visitors to Webster Street businesses.”
