CITY OF ALAMEDA ANNOUNCES BENEFIT FOR WINE COUNTRY FIRE VICTIMS
Alameda, CA - “Sunday, October 29, 2017 will be the ‘Alameda Benefit Concert’ supporting those families affected by the devastating fires in Napa, Sonoma, Solano, Mendocino, Yuba and Lake counties,” announced Alameda Mayor Trish Herrera Spencer. This citywide event will take place at the Alameda Elks Lodge located at 2255 Santa Clara Avenue in Alameda from 11am until 7pm.
The benefit will include live music from four different bay area artists, food and beverage. Most importantly, the Elks Lodge will be a donation drop off point for items to be delivered to fire victims.
A forty-foot trailer, donated by Rogers Trucking, will be available in the Elks Lodge parking lot to take in donations prior to the benefit concert beginning Saturday, October 21st and Sunday October 22nd from 10am to 6pm. You will also be able to drop off your donations Monday through Friday, October 23rd-27th noon until 6pm.
“There is so much loss and so many people in need, we knew we had to do something to help” said Alameda Eagles President Judi Tansey. “People Helping People is the Eagles motto” Judi added, “It’s what we do!” Alameda Elks President Lee Watson stated, “The Alameda Eagles and Alameda Elks are working together to organize this event. As Elks, we believe that Elks Care-Elks Share. Judy and I want all of Alameda to help if they can!” Here is a suggested list for some of the most needed items: tents, sleeping pads/cots, pillows, sheets and pillow cases, water, non-perishable food, masks, gloves, personal hygiene products, socks, extra phone chargers, reading glasses, diapers (adult and child), can openers, kids' games and pet food. If you are donating cash, those funds will be used to purchase gift cards, as well as age appropriate backpacks with school supplies for students. Checks should be made out to the Alameda Elks Lodge Charity Fund.
Alameda is full of service organizations, all pitching in to make this event a success. The list includes, but is not limited to: Alameda Kiwanis, Alameda Rotary, Alameda Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Alameda Business Association, Alameda Police and Fire Departments, Alameda Business Network, West Alameda Business Association and Alameda Peeps! A special thank you to Otto Wright of The Local, whose early work as a donation collection point and assistance in identifying potential distribution points in the wine country has been very much appreciated.
