Alameda to Host Inaugural Alameda Mini Maker Faire July 8
Call for Makers Closes April 30
Maker Faire is coming to Alameda! The first Alameda Mini Maker Faire is scheduled for Sunday, July 8, 2018 near Building 8 at Alameda Point. This is a free event that is open to the public.
A Call for Makers, Performers, and Crafters will open on April 2 and close April 30, 2018. On April 2, groups or individuals interested in participating can apply at https://alameda.makerfaire.com/call-for-makers/.
To learn more about the Alameda Mini Maker Faire, please save the date for a Maker Meet Up on Thursday, April 12, from 6-8pm, at Pineapple Sails at 2526 Blanding Avenue. Many thanks to Pineapple Sails, a custom sailmaking facility, producing small volume, high attention, quality sails, for hosting this free event.
The Alameda Mini Maker Faire was born out of a desire to celebrate and support Alameda’s growing maker community. At this all-ages event on July 8, makers, DIY enthusiasts, businesses, artists, and crafters will showcase their work. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience interactive exhibits, meet like-minded individuals, and be inspired by the creativity and innovation of the maker community in Alameda and beyond.
The Alameda Mini Maker Faire follows in the footsteps of its renowned parent event, Maker Faire, which hosts 125,000 visitors in San Mateo each May.
“The editors of Make: magazine started something unique and inspirational with the Maker Faire, and the community here in Alameda is the perfect audience for this creative and engaging event,” stated Amanda Gehrke with the City of Alameda and co-producer of the Alameda Mini Maker Faire. “On July 8th we will bring you everything from jams to drones, craft brewers to sail makers. Stay tuned!”
This event is brought to you by the City of Alameda, in partnership with the Downtown Alameda and West Alameda Business Associations, and with special thanks to our flagship sponsor, The General Storehouse at historic Building 8. The General Storehouse is the launchpad for all things creative -- including premier kitchens, maker space, and loft style work/live units, which are all currently under construction at Alameda Point.
You can follow the development of the Alameda Mini Maker Faire on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and check the website for updates at http://alameda.makerfaire.com/.
