Clean Water Program Staff coordinate several volunteer events each year including Earth Day (third saturday in April) and Coastal Cleanup Day (third saturday in September). Residents, visitors, groups and individuals of all ages are invited to join in shoreline cleanups and environmental outreach projects throughout the island.
We also support several ongoing projects such as the Storm Drain Steward Program and host community shoreline clean up events.
Storm Drain Stewardship Program
Become a storm drain steward and provide an important service to our community! Help keep harmful pollutants out of your storm drains and out of the Bay/Estuary. Have you ever seen "No Dumping, Drains to Bay" painted above a storm drain? By simply painting this message above a storm drain, you will have a unique opportunity to educate our community about how to protect the Bay.
You pick the location in the City, and Clean Water Program staff will provide stenciling equipment and guidance as needed. Project can be a small family project, or a large community service effort.
Shoreline Cleanup
In addition to Coastal Cleanup Day, Clean Water Program staff also sponser and support several shoreline clean ups throughout the year. Groups such as businesses, school groups, organizations and private groups in collaboration with City work to help clean up the shoreline by removing trash and litter from beaches, shorelines, jetty and other areas near the water. Once a site is selected, Clean Water Program staff will provide equipment and guidance as needed.
