On April 1, 2014 Alameda Police arrested 24 year old Leondre Paige for the 2010 murder of Eric Franklin, a 35 year old Alameda resident. On September 11, 2010, Franklin was shot multiple times in the 700 block of Eagle Avenue. He was transported to Highland Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. During the initial investigation witnesses described the shooter, additional suspects, and a vehicle seen fleeing the area, yet no one was identified.
In 2011, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office investigated a homicide in unincorporated San Leandro and identified Leondre Paige as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant, but it was believed he had fled the state. Evidence from Alameda’s 2010 homicide identified a connection to the Sheriff's Departments case. Alameda Sergeants Rick Bradley and Ryan Derespini worked with Sheriff’s Investigators to identify Paige as the person responsible for shooting Franklin, along with two additional suspects. Arrest warrants were issued for the two outstanding suspects, 24 year old Daquan Lane and 26 year old Monique Hardy-Gauthier, after Paige’s arrest in Sacramento.
On Friday, March 15, 2014, a security guard at the Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento identified a stolen rental car in the parking lot, using an Automated License Plate Reader. Mall security notified the Sacramento Police Department who arrested Paige after he entered the vehicle. They later discovered Paige was wanted for an Alameda County Sherriff’s Office homicide warrant.
On Monday, March 31, 2014, Sergeant’s Bradley and Derespini, along with Officers from the Oakland Housing Authority, arrested Daquan Lane at his residence in Oakland without incident. Lane was booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County.
On Wednesday, April 2, 2014, an Officer from the Berkeley Police Department arrested Hardy-Gauthier on unrelated charges. She was booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County. Sergeant Bradley and Detective Alex Keden responded to Santa Rita and arrested Hardy-Gauthier on the Alameda warrant.
In the last 10 years, there have been 14 homicides in Alameda, an average of 1.4 per year. APD has resolved 12 of the 14 cases.
