DIVISION CHIEF DOUG LONG
Chief Long joined the Alameda Fire Department as a Firefighter in 1988. In 1997 he was promoted to Lieutenant, and then to Captain in 1999. During his time working through the ranks, Chief Long was very active in the Department, including serving as a Program Manager and a member for various operational program committees. He was also an active member of the Alameda Firefighters Association, serving on its Executive Board. In 2011 Chief Long was promoted to Division Chief where he is a shift platoon commander. In addition to his shift responsibilities, he is the Chief in charge of special operations which includes; hazardous materials, technical rescue, and marine operations.
Chief Long earned his Associate Degree from Chabot College in Fire Technology. Throughout his career he has continued his education in the fire service by taking numerous classes and earning certifications from the California State Fire Marshal. Chief Long is also a member of the California Conference of Arson Investigators.
Chief Long is local to Alameda. He graduated from Alameda High School in 1981 and earned a living by working in local businesses prior to joining the Fire Department. A few of the local businesses he worked for include Tuckers Ice Cream, Svendsens Boat Works, and Buestad Construction. Chief Long is married and has four grown sons and step sons. He enjoys spending his free time with his family, traveling and exploring new places to go camping.
