Alameda Free Library Presents Obi Kaufmann

The Alameda Free Library is pleased to present Obi Kaufmann, the author The California Field Atlas. Obi Kaufmann is an artist, poet, and naturalist who lavishly illustrated hundreds of hand-painted maps and wildlife renderings based on his decades of walking the backcountry of California. The California Field Atlas won the 2018 NCIBA Book of the Year Award, is a #1 San Francisco Chronicle Best Seller, and is in its third printing.

Obi will present new stories of life on the trail and talk about his process of creating the book. This beautifully illustrated atlas takes readers off the beaten path and outside normal conceptions of California, revealing its myriad ecologies, topographies, and histories in exquisite maps and trail paintings.
