The City of Alameda is required to implement its Clean Water Program as a condition of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System(NPDES) permit for the City’s storm drain system. The conditions of this permit direct municipal compliance with the Federal Clean Water Act to protect the quality of local stormwater runoff.
CIties in the Bay Area are responsible for controlling stormwater pollution by complying with the Municipal Regional Stormwater NPDES Permit issued by the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Board. The City of Alameda implements the Municipal Regional Stormwater NPDES Permit requirements with all other Alameda County local agencies as a co-permittee in the Alameda County Clean Water Program.
This permit requires the City to prevent the discharge of non-stormwater (materials other than rain water) from entering the municipal storm drain system and San Francisco Bay including the Oakland Inner Harbor.
