Summer Reading Program

“Reading Takes You Places” at the Alameda Free Library

Registration for “Reading Takes You Places,” the free 2018 Summer Reading Program at the Alameda Free Library, begins Friday, June 1. Created to encourage reading as well as life-long learning, this eight-week program is open to everyone from birth through adult.

Like last year, registration and the tracking of reading and activity completion will take place online, enabling anyone to take part in the program from home, on a mobile device, or by using the computers at the library. All three library branches will also have a supply of physical game boards available to those who prefer them.

The library has a full schedule of special programs and events, allowing everyone to participate in fun reading and learning activities. “Family Fun Day,” the Summer Reading Program kickoff event, will be held at the Main Library on Saturday, June 2, from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm and will feature games, crafts, and a circus/comedy performance by Coventry & Kaluza. A library card is not needed to participate in the Summer Reading Program or any of the events the library hosts, and there is no cost. This free program is made possible through the generosity of the Friends of the Alameda Free Library.

Participants may register online at https://alamedafree.beanstack.org. The first day to play is June 1, the last day to register is July 21, and the last day to play is July 31.

Alameda Free Library is wheelchair accessible. The Main Library is served by AC Transit routes 21 and 51A. Bicycle parking racks are available at the library.
