tabber2Overview The project is located along the Webster Street corridor at six intersections between Central Avenue and the Alameda ingress and egress of the Webster/Posey tubes as well as Constitution Way in the City of Alameda. It also includes signal timing work at the intersection of Harrison and 7th Streets in Oakland. The project will implement an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) or SMART Corridor to improve safety and operations of transit and vehicular modes; enhancing mobility and safety in this vital corridor which connects the City of Alameda to I-880 and the City of Oakland. The project includes implementation of an Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) system to improve emergency response time for fire departments, implementation of a Transit Signal Priority (TSP) system to promote transit use and implementation of an Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) to inform public of street, freeway and tunnel conditions in real-time. Details Alameda County Transportation Commission - Project Fact Sheet (September 2014) Schedule The Environmental Document (ED) and Right-Of-Way (ROW) Certification were approved by the Caltrans Local Assistance Division and the Final Design Phase has been completed. In June 2012, staff was directed by the City of Alameda Transportation Committee to prioritize crosswalk and signalization during implementation of the Construction Phase. Alameda CTC will administer the project, which was awarded in September 2012. Construction activities began January 2013 and are currently underway. The project construction is complete and integration work for the ITS elements is currently underway.
