Applications, Appointments and Vacancies

Thank you for your interest in serving on a City of Alameda Board or Commission.  The information below outlines the Board and Commission application and appointment process, and also lists any Board and Commission vacancies.  For additional information on applications, appointments or vacancies, please feel free to contact the City Clerk’s office via email at clerk@alamedaca.gov or by calling 510-747-4800.

APPLICATIONS

Residents of Alameda are invited to submit applications (which are available here) to the City Clerk’s office via hand delivery or mail (2263 Santa Clara Avenue, Room 380, Alameda, CA 94501), via email (clerk@alamedaca.gov) or via fax (510-865-4048). Applications are valid for one year.  Applicants are considered for any vacancies which occur during the year their application is valid.  If you remain interested in serving and are not appointed within a year of submitting your application, please be sure to submit a new, updated application.

APPOINTMENTS
The appointment process involves two steps: 1) the Mayor makes a nomination at a City Council meeting, and 2) the City Council considers a resolution of appointment at the following City Council meeting.  Nominees are notified and invited to attend the City Council meeting when the resolution of appointment is considered.  Please note, when a vacancy is filled, only those selected will be notified.  All remaining applicants will be considered for any vacancies which occur during the year their application is valid.   When the resolution of appointment is considered, the nominee's application will be included in the City Council meeting packet (with any redactions if personal information is requested to be withheld).

Additionally, following appointment, new Board and Commission members will receive information from the City Clerk's office, including a Statement of Economic Interests Form 700 and Sunshine Ordinance Declaration, which must be completed and returned to the City Clerk's office.

VACANCIES
Vacancies occur due to resignations or term expirations, which occur on June 30th.  Full terms are four years. Applicants filling a vacancy caused by a resignation will serve a partial term and be eligible to serve two additional full terms.  When there are vacancies, a press release which contains pertinent information is posted here.
