Alameda, CA – Due to several recent early morning burglaries and a related juvenile sexual assault, the Alameda Police Department is asking all Alameda residents to close and lock all doors and windows, particularly throughout the night.

The Alameda Police Department Investigations Unit is actively investigating six “hot prowl” burglaries that occurred during the late night or early morning hours between June 16, 2015 and August 9, 2015.  All of the crimes occurred in the west end of Alameda and in each case the suspect attempted to gain or gained access to residences while people were home.  In each of the cases the suspect description and method of operation is similar.  The suspect is described as a dark skinned male, 18 years or older, 150lbs, with a haircut that is curly on top and short on the sides.  A photo of a person of interest from one of the burglaries (as shown below) was sent out to other police agencies and is posted on Alameda Police Department Facebook, and City website at www.alamedaca.gov.  The Police Department is still trying to identify him and are asking for the public’s assistance on any identification leads.

The most recent incident was reported on August 9, 2015. Alameda Police Dispatch received a call from a west end parent stating that her daughter was a victim of an assault while her daughter was sleeping in her bedroom.  The suspect gained access to the bedroom by an open bedroom window after he cut the screen.  Alameda Police Detectives were immediately called in to investigate along with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab Technicians.  Detectives are investigating all leads, some of which include viewing all available video, evidence collection from various crime scenes and deploying units for directed enforcement during night-time hours.  Uniformed and plain clothed patrol has also been increased on the west end of Alameda.

We strongly urge Alameda residents be extra diligent in securing doors and windows in their homes and to report any suspicious activity or report additional information to the Alameda Police Department at (510) 337-8340.
