Construction Begins on Park Street to Improve Pedestrian Safety between Lincoln and Buena Vista Avenues

Construction work is anticipated to begin on July 5, 2016 along Park Street, between Buena Vista and Lincoln Avenues, to improve pedestrian safety.  Recently approved commercial developments at these locations are expected to significantly increase the number of pedestrians using these crosswalks. The construction work will consist of the following improvements:

• Park Street at Buena Vista Avenue - reduce the curb radius at the northwest corner of the intersection by reducing the effective street crossing distance for pedestrians; installation of a new crosswalk on the north side; and installation of a pedestrian signal, push buttons, and ADA compliant accessibility ramps.

• Park Street at Pacific Avenue – installation of a rectangular rapid flashing beacon on the north and south side of the intersection.

• Park Street at Lincoln Avenue/Tilden Avenue- installation of bulb-outs at the southwest and southeast corners of the intersection to reduce the effective street crossing distance for pedestrians, and installation of new audible pedestrian push buttons at all four corners of the intersection for the crosswalks.

This project is funded through the combination of Federal Transportation Community and System Preservation (TCSP) Program funds and Measures B and BB for $436,441.

The project is estimated to take two months, with an expected completion date of September 30, 2016.  Construction work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  During construction, motorists may experience minor disruptions in traffic, temporary loss of parking spaces, temporary restricted street access, as well as an increase in noise and dust levels.  Bus stop access will be maintained throughout the project.

The City appreciates your cooperation and patience during this construction.  Questions or information about the project should be directed to Mr. Virendra Patel at (510) 747-7900.
