Park Street and Blanding Avenue Paving Project

The City of Alameda is commencing work on the next phase of its street repair and resurfacing project. Weather permitting, the following streets are scheduled for asphalt concrete overlay as follows:

  • Park Street, from the Park Street Bridge to Eagle Avenue (Night Work)

Sunday, November 4 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday morning, November 5

Park Street, from Eagle Avenue to Buena Vista Avenue; and Blanding Avenue, from Oak Street to Broadway

Tuesday, November 6, to Friday, November 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Asphalt concrete overlay is a mixture of asphalt cement (tar), gravel, and sand that is spread with a paving machine and compacted with rollers. For street work that requires overlays, the contractor will make best efforts to maintain one lane of traffic available in each direction. However, site conditions may require that only one lane be available for both directions. In this case, flag persons will be used to control traffic and delays will occur. It is possible that on-street parking will be removed for up to one week during construction hours.

During construction, motorists and businesses may experience minor disruptions in traffic, restricted street access and parking, as well as minor increases in noise levels and dust. Bus stop access and access to individual driveways will be maintained throughout the project duration.

With the exception of Park Street from Blanding Avenue to Eagle Avenue, the repair will take place in several phases, and not all on the same day. Curb and gutter will be removed and replaced in a few places, then areas of poor pavement will be patched, then the edges of the street will be ground down, then the street will be paved, then any traffic markings will be replaced. There may be temporary loss of on-street parking during construction. Please watch for the “No Parking” signs that will be posted 72 hours before the actual date of work to advise businesses and residents on dates when the work will begin and when parking restrictions will become effective.

The City appreciates your cooperation and patience, and apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this project may cause. Questions or information about the project should be directed to Trung Nguyen at 510-747-7900. The project is primarily funded by Alameda County Measure’s B and BB, Vehicle Registration Fund, and SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
