Learners

Learners commit to meeting two hours a week with a tutor for at least six months.  After calling our office, new learners first meet with the Alameda Reads Director, Sue Mark, to discuss their goals and schedule and to do some reading and writing practice.  These meetings usually take about an hour and a half and help us match learners with the best tutor for their goals.  After this meeting, learners can begin coming to small groups.

Pairs of learners and tutors have their first meeting in the Alameda Reads office with Sue to talk together about goals and books or other materials they can use.  During this meeting, they set a regular weekly schedule.  The pairs then begin to meet on their own.

Learners work with tutors on monthly reports to record their progress and ask for new materials.  Learners are also welcome to call the office at any time with questions or problems.
