If you are a patient person who likes to meet new people and help them, you would be a great Alameda Reads tutor. Volunteer Tutors attend a twelve-hour tutor training and make a six-month commitment to work with a learner. Tutor training is held about three times a year in the winter, spring, and fall.
Description

Tutors Should:
- Meet with a learner 2 times a week for 1-hour sessions for at least 6 months.
- Help the learner identify and work towards achieving specific goals.
- Plan individual lessons based on the learner’s goals and abilities.
- Report monthly hours and learner progress to the Alameda Reads Office.
- Be patient, flexible, and have a good sense of humor.
- Be responsible and reliable.
- Have good communication, listening and organizational skills.
- Treat learners with respect and maintain a team approach to learning.
