Show Someone You Love Them, Listen

The Great Thanksgiving Listen is a national assignment, from the folks at StoryCorps, to engage people of all ages in the act of listening and to capture the voices and stories of thousands of Americans through one-on-one interviews throughout the Thanksgiving holiday period. In support, the Alameda Free Library will be hosting a workshop on November 10 at 6:30 p.m. and providing listening areas during the Great Thanksgiving Listen, November 16 - 30.

In order to participate in the Great Thanksgiving Listen, you will need the StoryCorps app on your phone or tablet. This free app can be downloaded from the internet. On November 10, 2015, the Library will host a “get acquainted with the app” session in preparation for the Great Listen. This session will be facilitated by Mr. Theo Wismar, an Encinal High School student and current user of the app. The goal of this event is to get you comfortable using the app so that you’re ready to participate in the Great Listen.

From November 16 - 30, the Main Library at 1550 Oak St., will make two Listening Corners available for those wishing to conduct their interviews. When you’ve completed your interview, you’ll be able to immediately upload it to StoryCorps and upload it to the Alameda Free Library Facebook account as well (instructions will be provided).
