City Manager John Russo Appoints Interim General Manager for AMP

City Manager John Russo has appointed Ronald Stassi to serve as the Interim General Manager (GM) for Alameda Municipal Power beginning January 2, 2014. AMP’s current General Manager, Girish Balachandran, is taking the GM position in the City of Riverside.

“Ron Stassi understands the issues facing Alameda and the Northern California Power Agency (of which Alameda is a member),” said Russo. “He also has past working relationships with some of AMP’s utility personnel which he gained from a similar assignment in late 2006 and early 2007.”

“We’re fortunate to have found an experienced General Manager who knows Alameda and who will hit the ground running while we continue looking for the best permanent GM,” said Madeline Deaton, Public Utilities Board president. “The Board is confident Mr. Stassi will continue the sound management practices that have ensured AMP’s success, and we look forward to working with him.”

As the Interim General Manager, Stassi will ensure AMP’s excellent performance continues smoothly, and will assist City Manager Russo in conducting the search for a permanent GM.

Mr. Stassi most recently served as Utilities Director for the City of Lompoc from early 2007 through late 2012. Stassi has spent over 40 years with California municipal utilities, in a technical, supervisory or management role. He has been the General Manager/Utilities Director for two California municipal utilities covering 15 years and served in similar roles on an interim basis for the Cities of Alameda and Vernon as well as for two tribal utilities.  In three of the four assignments he also had responsibility for the recruitment of permanent general managers or utility directors.  Mr. Stassi also worked for municipal utilities in the Cities of Glendale and Pasadena, and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.  Mr. Stassi has also taught engineering subjects at the university level having served as an adjunct professor (part time) in the California State College system, and is a registered Electrical Engineer in California.
