Alameda’s Second Annual Community Service Awards
Please join Mayor Trish Herrera Spencer and Alameda’s Social Services Human Relations Board to honor extraordinary volunteers who make a difference in our community.
On Thursday, October 22, seven outstanding community volunteers and one nonprofit organization will receive the City of Alameda Community Service Awards, during a Reception and Presentation Ceremony, at the Alameda Elks Lodge in their lower reception area at 2255 Santa Clara Ave. The Reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Awards Presentation Ceremony at 7:00 p.m.
A Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Ginny Krutilek, for her more than 25 years’ leadership with the Alameda Homeless network and life-time service to our community.
Additional honorees include:
Audrey Lord-Hausman - Volunteer of the Year Award,
Vickie Smith - Community Service Individual Award,
Marian Williams - Nonprofit Board Member Award,
Deanna Chu and Julian Aguilar - Community Service Youth Awards, and
Alameda Family Services will receive the Nonprofit Organization Award.
In addition, a Special Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to the family of Niel Tam 1945-2015, in recognition of his lifetime of dedication and service to the City and citizens of Alameda.
Awardees will also be recognized during the presentation of The Extra Mile Day Proclamation, at the October 20th meeting of the City Council.
Twenty-five nominations were considered by a panel of judges that included Mayor Trish Herrera Spencer, California State Assembly member Rob Bonta, Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan, Alameda Police Chief Paul Rolleri, Mastick Senior Center Advisory Board VP Paul Hauser, Social Services Human Relations Board (SSHRB) Awards Committee Chair Jennifer Williams, SSHRB Board President Doug Biggs, and SSHRB Board member Audrey Hyman.
The Community Service Awards Committee would also like to recognize the other outstanding community service volunteers and organizations who were nominated. They are: Beverly Buhnerkempe, Italo Calpestri III, Joyce Denyven, Kate Quick, Gail Wetzork, JuelleAnn Boyer, Janice Edwards, Molly, McEnerney, Lorrie Murray, Chris Seiwald, Pam Chang, Bill Dal Porto, Nancy Evans, Anna Barreto, Anne Barreto, John Coyle, Steven Wu, Jessica Xian, Maria Zarifis, Alameda Boys and Girls Club, Alameda Chamber of Commerce, Alameda Education Foundation, Alameda Homeless Network, Alameda Welfare Council, Alameda Animal Shelter-FAAS, Pacific Pinball Museum, and Rhythmix Cultural Center.
