Inspired Art Needed for Teen Read Week at the Alameda Free Library

Artwork and artists can have a great influence in their communities. Teen artists are invited to create drawings, paintings, doodles, and other works of art that will inspire Alamedans to read! The art will be displayed in the Homework Center in the Main Library.

Artwork should be on the theme of reading or books. You can paint a picture of your favorite reading spot, draw your favorite book, sketch your favorite character, or create another type of bookish art. All submissions should be two-dimensional and artwork should be no larger than 16 in. x 20 in. Artwork should be dropped off at the Reference Desk at the Main Library on 1550 Oak Street from October 1 to October 15. All artists should complete a display application and release form, available at the reference desk.

The art display will be in celebration of Teen Read Week, a national adolescent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). Its purpose is to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users. Teen Read Week is from October 9 through October 15. All art must be created by teens, ages 13 to 18, only.

Please call the Main Library Reference Desk at 510-747-7713 or email Hallie Fields, Teen Librarian, at hfields@alamedaca.gov, if you have any questions.
