The Alameda Police Department's patrol layout is based on a five sector system. Seven days a week, 24 hours a day, officers are assigned to patrol the five sectors. At any given time of day or night, there are typically one to four officers assigned to each sector. During the daily line-up, officers are assigned to the different sectors. When daily emergency and non-emergency calls are made to the police department, the Communications Center will assign them to the patrol officers. Patrol officers are responsible for handling these calls for service with the primary area of focus being their assigned patrol sector during their shift.
If your neighborhood has a particular long term, non-emergency problem that requires police attention, the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Unit can use many new and innovative ways to help. That help may be simply more patrol to a specific area, a Neighborhood Watch, or it may be contacting another government agency to help further the police effort. In addition to overseeing various programs and supervising Police Sergeants, each Police Lieutenant is responsible for one of the five sectors. This ensures continuous communication between the different Police Bureaus to better understand the needs of the community.
