Chief of Police - Paul Rolleri

Chief of Police Paul Rolleri was born and raised in Alameda, California. He attended Otis School, St. Philip Neri Elementary, and graduated from Alameda High School in 1981.

 

Paul attended then Cal State University Hayward, where he earned a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice Administration in 1985. He also played basketball at Cal State from 1981-1984.

 

Paul began his law enforcement career in 1989. From 1989-1992, he was an Investigator with the State of California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, assigned to the San Francisco office.

 

In 1992, Paul returned to Alameda as a member of the Alameda Police Department. He was hired on April 27, 1992 and has been at APD for 25 years. As an officer, he worked in patrol, primarily on the west end. He was a Field Training Officer and spent four years in the Investigations Division, with assignments in the Youth Services Section and Violent Crimes Unit. In 1997, he was awarded the Department Medal of Merit for his role in capturing two of three fleeing suspects in a violent bank robbery at South Shore Center. Paul was promoted to sergeant in 2002, where he supervised patrol and the APD Jail and Identification Unit. He promoted to lieutenant in 2009 and to captain in 2011.

 

On June 2, 2013, Paul was named Interim Police Chief. He was appointed permanently on November 17, 2013.
