In continuing with our efforts to promote pedestrian safety during the month of May, the Alameda Police Department will kick off the “May You Arrive Safely” campaign. This three-pronged campaign is designed to educate the public about traffic safety and promote community involvement in keeping Alameda's streets safe.

One facet will be daily safety related messages via our social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter). Messages will target pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists as a way of reminding all to share the roads and look out for one another. Our patrol officers will have a role in helping promote the safety message of the day and will help educate the public when violations occur.

.

Additionally, there will be a poster competition for students from all Alameda schools, as well as students homeschooled within Alameda. The competition will have three categories based on grade level.  One winner will be selected from each of the elementary, middle, and high school entries, and he or she will receive a $100 cash prize.

The main event, designed to involve the entire community, is an organized pedestrian safety walk on May 3rd. There will be two start locations, one at each ferry terminal, and the walk will end at City Hall, where the winner of the poster competition will be announced. At this free event, participants will receive a free t-shirt designed to promote roadway visibility. The shirt will be “traffic safety” green and have a reflective safety message on the back. In order to receive a shirt, participants must register online **HERE** quantities are limited so register today!
