City Responds to Eight Early Morning Fires

 

The City of Alameda’s Fire Department responded to eight fires on Sunday, September 28 between 1:00 A.M. and 5:00 A.M. Thus far, there are no reported injuries. Approximately four families were displaced from their homes, and five businesses suffered damage. The Red Cross is assisting the families.

 

The Alameda Police Department has arrested two men for suspicion of arson. One man, 27, is an Alameda resident. The other, a 22 year old man, is not from Alameda. The investigation is being conducted by the Alameda Police Department, the Alameda Fire Department, the Alameda County Arson Task Force, and the Alameda County Crime Lab. No further information is available at this time.

 

The fires occurred at the following locations, in chronological order:

  1. 1300 block of Regent Street
  2. 2000 block of San Antonio
  3. 1100 block of Regent Street
  4. 2200 block of San Antonio
  5. 1000 block of Willow Street
  6. 2200 block of Encinal Ave
  7. 1600 block of Park Street
  8. 1500 block of Park Street

 

Approximately 35 Mutual Aid firefighters were provided from the Fire Departments of Berkeley, Oakland, and Alameda County. Paramedics Plus also provided support. Twenty five City of Alameda firefighters and 12 additional City of Alameda Firefighters were called in to respond. Approximately 15 City of Alameda Police officers responded, and 5 APD investigators were called in as well.
